Welcome back to Term 4! Notices/Reminders

Welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone has had an enjoyable and restful break and ready for the last term of the year. We have so much to look forward to this term such as Camp, Swimming, Athletics, and Gala to name a few!

A few reminders/Notices
HATS: As Term 4 approaches, so does the sun. Please make sure you have a Reremoana School hat that is clearly labeled with students name and room number. Without a hat, students will only be able to play in shaded areas during break times and may miss out on sports during class time. Classrooms have plenty of sunblock but if you wish to bring your own to school, that is fine too.

SWIMMING: Tui team Field of Dreams swimming starts Tuesday 17th October. Room 15's swimming time is at 12:30pm which means we leave school at 12pm. Please make sure you are prepared for this by packing swimming togs, towel and if you have your own goggles (The pool provided goggles also)

ATHLETICS: Reremoana School athletics day is Friday 27th October held at Massey Park in Papakura. Please make sure you have returned your permission slip and $6 bus fare.

SHOES: We will be doing a lot of athletic training during the first week back. Please make sure you wear closed in running shoes every day. Closed in shoes protect our toes when practicing shot put and discus.

CAMP:  In the last week of Term 3, a camp notice went home regarding medicines, food allergies and general things we need to be aware of. It is super important that we receive these forms back. Please return it as soon as you can. If you need another one, I have spares in the classroom.

Please email me at if you have any questions/queries.
See you all on Monday!!

Field of Dreams Swimming

Dear parents and caregivers,

At this stage our class does not yet have enough parent helpers for our Field of Dreams swimming lessons next term. We need to have a minimum of three parent helpers per session in order to meet our safety ratios. If you are able to assist, please just send me an email to indicate which days you will be able to come along on the using the table below. We ask that all parent helpers meet their child’s class at the Sykes Road Pool and Leisure Centre at the beginning of the lesson.

A friendly reminder that all permission slips need to be returned to school by Wednesday this week.

Kind regards,

Science in a Van

The Tui, Pukeko and Kiwi teams were all so lucky to have Science in a Van come and visit us on Wednesday.

Olympian visitor

On Friday, we were so lucky to attend an inspirational assembly with a New Zealand Olympic athlete.

Brooke Neal, a Black Sticks player, came to Reremoana to talk to the Years 5-8 about working hard to achieve your dreams, no matter how big or small they are. Her presentation was so motivating and encouraging and we all walked away from her talk with our heads held high and a little more spark in our steps!
Some of the students were even lucky to help her out on stage and also got her signature. It was definitely a moment to remember!

We have a doctor in the making in Room15!
A huge congratulation goes out to Hayley who moved up a level in her St John training.
She competed in a number of tasks and stations in the relay division, even overtaking her brother, resulting in a new rank!
Well done Hayley, we are in safe hands!

Life cycle writing - Weeks 4 & 5

The Tui Team writing focus this term is explanation and informative writing. For the last couple of weeks, we have been working really hard on writing about a life cycle of an insect or frog. We had the option of choosing a butterfly, ladybug, mosquito or frog. We found out heaps of interesting information along with life cycle facts. Take a look at some of our writing samples below and leave a comment if you wish!

Supporting your child at home with school maths and extending their numeracy knowledge

It is important for parents to help support their child with their maths learning, so your child can retain the learning from school and to help them to be successful. A lot of the time parents don't know where to start with helping their child because the strategies are different from what they did at school.  The area where students need the most support is with numeracy knowledge such as basic facts, place value, forwards and backwards number sequence etc.  Here is a link to an awesome math site of ways you can help support your child with their school maths at home.

Alongside this great e-learning tool, there are also other programmes that support Place Value and Basic Fact knowledge.

Week Four By Hannah

Week 4 started with Lucy A sharing a video of her on the high ropes at Butterfly Creek last weekend. Here is the video of Lucy A.

Wow that was so cool!
Then on Tuesday, we started making our statistical investigation posters. We had to think of a question we wanted to find information too, ask the class to collect data and then use the data to make a graph. Here are some photos of them

We did a great job on those!

On Wednesday we had some science on what we know about Space, and the universe and also what we wanted to learn. We watched a video of some facts about space and other stuff here is a few photos of us taking notes.

Pretty cool!

Week Three - By Sonia

On Tuesday 16th May, Rooms 15 and 16, along with the Pukeko team were lucky enough to visit the Manurewa Marae. First, our tour person named Eli, welcomed us in with a powhiri. Next, we acknowledged and thanked them for welcoming us onto their marae with a song. We, then went in the marae.  We also sang the song tihei mauri ora. Next we checked out the  wharenui. It had many pictures of the maori king, queen and lots of other ancestors. we also participated in a play, learning about how Manurewa got it’s name and the two brothers flying the kites. After all that fun, Eli taught us a song called Aue ka hoki nei au.  It was such a wonderful day and we are so lucky we had lots of parents to come and help us too. Check out the video!

Week two - By Coraleigh

Week 2 started with Ben sharing some wool from his grandparents. Sheeps wool is very delicate. It is as light as holding a cloud but fluffier. Here is a photo of Ben holding some wool.

Cool right?. It was nice of Ben to bring some wool in to share with us.

Last week we started doing tennis. The class has done well for the first 2 days. Ben and Oscar came down to help us learn. We did a few relay challenges.
Here are some photo’s of room 15 learning tennis with Ben and Oscar. IMG_0641.JPGIMG_0634.JPGIMG_0636.JPG

On Thursday Cayden got a Special certificate from Mrs Cowan for demonstrating all of the A, B, C and D from signal Sam. Here is a photo of Cayden with his certificate.

Welcome back to Term Two!

Welcome back to term Two! I hope you had a relaxing break and you're ready to get into some action packed learning!
We have had such an awesome start to Term Two. The attitude and contribution to the daily program is really impressive. Keep it up Room 15!

Tuesday marked our first Tennis session for the term. We are so lucky to have experts come to school and teach us the skills and rules around these fun sports! We found some of the co-ordination tasks a little tricky but we had fun nonetheless and we are only getting better! Check out of pics of our first session.

Teamwork and working together is a really important part of the Room 15 culture. We were given the challenge to work in groups of four to create the tallest AND strongest tower using only 100 straws, sellotape and had 30 minutes. The catch was, it needed to support/hold a ball. This activity was really cool and we had so much fun. Teamwork was an important aspect of this task as we needed all hands on deck to design and create the tower. Take a look at our photos.

Exceptional Writing

The homework task for last week was to write a narrative story from a character's point of view. The ideas that the students came up with were outstanding. So outstanding that they needed to be shared! Take a look at how awesome these pieces of writing are!

Week 3 & 4

We have had such a busy couple weeks!

One of our accomplishments from Week Three is our Symmetrical Name Monsters! This worked in nicely with our Geometry focus. The end results are spectacular and the children feel very proud of their work. Take a look at the pictures and see whose name you can spot!

We learnt a new game during Tui Team sports time on Friday. J-ball is a super fun game that involves getting the ball over the rugby posts and the opposite team have to catch the ball or they are out. This results in players getting out rather quickly due to not catching the ball. The first team to get all the other team's player's out, wins. Here are some pictures from our first game. It will not be our last though!

House spirit day
Friday marked the first house event for the year. It was so neat to see everyone from Room15 get so involved in dressing up in their house colours and also proudly shouting their house chat. After lunch, we met up with our houses and played some games until it was time for the house chant and walk around the school. What an awesome day!

Mathletes of the week
Well done to the mathletes of the week. You have worked very hard this week! Keep up the great work.

Week two

What a busy week Room 15 had! We achieved so much in four days and are so proud of what we accomplished.

Wednesday marked our first Hockey session with Counties Manukau. We had such a great time and enjoyed refreshing our skills alongside working as a team. Check out some of our action shots!

Buddy class
We were so excited to meet our buddy class, K2M on Friday. We introduced ourselves and got straight into working together. We had so much fun completing a PB4L scavenger hunt around the school!

Self Portraits
What a talented bunch of artists Room 15 are! We looked into a range of techniques such as shading, blending, and using light and dark lines for effect. We sketched self-portraits of ourselves using half of our faces to reflect the other side! This also translated nicely to our geometry that we have begun to revisit.

Mathletic Champions
Well done to all the students in Room 15 who worked hard at their Mathletics this week. A good number you reached or exceeded 1,500 points, which is the expected minimum number of points students should be achieving each week. Special congratulations to the top three Mathletes who are listed below!

Getting to know Room 15 - Our first week

We had such an awesome first week back for Term one!
We spent our time getting to know each other, our routines and requirements, our classroom environment and also Miss Koppier.

One highlight was the "find your partner" game where we had to use our questioning skills to find the partner that matched our own. Some partners included Batman - Robin, Shrek - Fiona and salt - pepper.

We also got stuck into writing by writing about our summer holidays. Check out how cool these look! Room 15 did a spectacular job!

We have been working really hard on several art pieces which we cannot wait to finish and display around the classroom. Watch this space for pictures of our completed creations!
